Thanks, Henrik (and others who commented on this one -- getting this
list in digest form and not having been at the keyboard much these last
few days, I can't keep up!). It seems clear that the 100 is a good bet,
not that I expected otherwise. I have both 85 and 105 in my Nikon world
(and a 90 in my seldom used Leica bag -- anybody want it?) and I find
they have distinctly different uses, so maybe the "try both" approach is
right.
But gee whiz, in this post-Xmas moment, that means I'll have to sell
something. And as we all know only too well, the "sell the one you like
least" answer is no answer at all. I keep acquiring bits and pieces of
kit having agreed, with my weak self, to sell the thing it replaces, or
the thing(s) I hardly ever use, or the thing(s) I really shouldn't have
bought in the first place. I blame it all on oBoy and KEH and the Web in
general.
I'm not at all rich, but when I was really dirt poor, photographic life
was easier in many ways -- one body, a couple of lenses, and I made good
pictures about as often as I do now. For many years it was just a tired
old Mamiya C3 with an 80mm lens, and I can still smile with pleasure at
the work it produced.
Sorry to be so contemplative on a list as fast and crisp and witty as
this one (I love it, by the way, especially the tolerance for
interesting OT stuff) but that's what a Sunday afternoon before heading
back to the grind does to me.
Maybe there's a new thread in there: what single combination of camera
and lens has produced the pictures you're most proud of? Olympus
preferably, I guess I have to add, not knowing this list's limits
perfectly well.
