Let's see, 20mm on an E-1 is the equivalent in horiz. fov of 40mm on an
E-1 or 31-32mm on a 10D. F1.8/2 isn't so special at those fovs. I have
the 28/2 and 50/1.4 and zooms at f2.8 covering that range. My 35mm is
only f2.8, but the f2.0 is readily available. I know there are some for
whom a 'normal lens is 35-40mm, or even 28mm. For me, it's more like 50+mm.

Also, I'll admit my problem, I very much like zooms for their
flexibility and framing capabilities. I classify the shot missed because
the lens needed was in the bag and the opportunity passed right there
with the shot missed or blurry because of the tripod that isn't used
'cause it's at home and the shot missed entirely 'cause the camera is on
the shelf. I tend to use primes only for macro and special purposes. I
know I'll never be the pro with the 100 speed film, the fast prime and
the great tripod at just the right place and time. For me, the
commitment of time and resources is just too great for the rewards. So
I'll just be the amateur with the fastish film, zoom, often a slowish
one for weight and coverage, and slightly too light weight tripod or
monopod enjoying myself. Just my way.
