Garth, please don't consider this definitive advice, more
a prompting to others more knowledgeable, but my
understanding in relation to my c5050z is that the
"trigger voltage"(?) of the flash can exceed the
specifications of the camera, and "fry" the camera.
I believe this has been spoken about quite a lot of
c5050z lists, so if this fellow can perhaps find them
(or one for their camera), perhaps on Yahoo, they may
be able to find more definitive advice. I have vague
memories of reading about off-camera cords/adapters assisting
in some way (only permitting relevant voltage), and
some successes with third-party flashes.

Actually, a quick look in my convoluted bookmark file
found:

http://www.molon.de/5050.html#ExternalFlash

and

http://www.the-meissners.org/olympus-flash.html

(this latter seems to be a *very* good reference, though
it doesn't specifically mention to c-5000)

Cheers
Marc (surprised at his own bookmark archives)
