The two pictures on the shutter curtain meter pattern page suggest that  
the center weighting is a result of the pattern. The first pattern  
would give the weighting to a strip across the vertical middle of the  
frame rather than the center. So does this mean there are two methods  
involved; the aspherical metering element and prism, and the curtain  
meter pattern?

If center weighting exists in auto mode, it can't be from the pattern  
as it's off the film.
