I think you need an erector set! That desire to build is strong in you.
Using a macro extension in between the 1.4 tele and your 200mm shouldn't
work, but if it did you would have a long, thin, slow 280mm of dubious
quality.
The teleconverter seemed more attractive to me when I didn't have a 300mm,
having bought a good 300 the role of the converter has shrunk to maybe
purring it in the walkabout bag in case I need it. I think that if I don't
use my 2Xa soon it is going up for sale.
