Again this boils down to carefully looking at the sellers reputation,
reading the feedback (find out what he/she sells), and asking questions. I
had a similar situation with a couple of OM-2S's; I bought one from a guy in
FLA who stated that the camera had some minor brassing but worked well
(overall excellent) and he was pretty much right now..tho the body was a
little bit more "used" than I expected (more brassing also). I still was not
satisfied and went for second one...this one came from Seattle...the guy
stated that the camera was "excellent". I found the camera to be scratched
up and not functional (shutter would not fire...even with new batteries).
Thankfully the seller was good and promptly refunded my money. I used the
refunded money and purchased an "Excellent" condition OM-2S from KEH. Now I
am still contemplating sending it in for a checkup just in case...and I'd
like some opinions on whether or not that is feasible.
I am hot for lenses but this is something I am quite weary about...buying
lenses from Eb*y. The only sellers I trust really are OLYMPUSAMERICA and
GARY SCHLOSS (from previous experience).

I absolutely agree, I have bought a number of cameras from EBay and have
been stung a couple of times. I would not consider this OM-4 purchase as a
sting, the seller did note that the camera had problems. I did once buy a an
OM-2 that was described as perfect. It was physically damaged and when a
tech removed the base plate, the inside was rusty. I opened a dispute with
EBay against the seller as he was unwilling to refund, he claimed that I
must have dropped it.
All said and done, I eventually got my money back and the Seller was kicked
off eBay... If this camera doesn't work out, I will be disappointed because
I would love to own an OM-4. I already have an OM-10 and a near new OM-1
that was given to me by my mother (she ran 1 roll of film through it, and I
still have the other roll of film that expired in 1986). I will try a new
set of batteries and take it to Photosphere, if they say its B.E.R then I
guess it will make a good ornament.
