I have a Digilux 1 and never use the viewfinder. This is at least
partly because I need reading glasses to use the screen and switching
between the two which necessitates putting on and taking off specs if
not very 'fluid.' (No, dioptre correction would never be sufficient!)
I've even contemplated making a little hood for the screen to make it
more 'finderlike.'
His whole argument seems to be based on the idea that you can't use
it like an M series film camera. Well, er, yes. The point being...?
Frankly, nice as the M finders are, the best went out of the window
with the M3 and Leica never went back to that wonderful near lifesize
finder and the floating frame style of shooting. Does he complain
about that, given that it was the ultimate tool of his fluid shooter?
His complaint seems to boil down to the idea that it is a tool that
looks like a Leica, feels like a Leica but doesn't quite work like a
Leica. Not much of an argument to me, however nicely expressed. I
don't use mine like I'd use an M Leica (or use my Voigt R2) - nor do
I expect to. Any more than I'd expect to use an E1 in exactly the
same way as an OM 1.
