[OM] Scan OM/film or get digital camera?

Currently I use Velvia or Portra and scan if I want to do home
tweaking/printing. I like the presentation of slides (also at the camera
club) but even with the projector and screen set up permanently we don't
sit and look through them as often as we should. I feel that a CD/DVD on
the TV would be more-or-less equivalent.

Now, I (only) have an Acer Scanwit 2720 and I was very happy with the
output until I downloaded some full-size test images from digital cameras.
Wow! And so clean - no scratches, dust, colo(u)r-cast,... So is my
scanner a weak link?

Question: For those of you who used to scan film and then went digital, did
you EVER get a scan as good as the file you get out of a decent digital
camera?

(I'm trying to make up my mind: Go E-1 or similar? Wait E-2 or similar?
Get much better scanner?)

thanks for sharing your experiences
