Thanks for the tips guys. I will use either the 300 or 500 with a 2x
converter which, with practice, I've learned how to stabilize. Since I have
time I will try some test shots for exposure and magnification. What the
heck, I might as well buy an OM adapter for my friends scope which should
have more than enough magnification. BTW, there will be a repeat solar
transit of Venus on June 6, 2012 so if I flub this one I have a second
chance!

I have some astropics skill, mainly in night sky, but I also managed to do
in the past some solar photos.
First problem, with a 500 mm telephoto, you probably will see quite
nothing. Diameter on the film will be around 0.14 mm (if the venus diameter
is 60 arcsec as I remember). You have to limit the exposure to very short
time, in order not to blur the image due to air movement.
For the exposure, I would suggest to try in advance. If you have a spot
camera (OM2-sp, OM3, OM4), you can start with the spot metering directly on
the sun.
