"White balance is everything when shooting digital" is only true if you 
are not shooting raw which allows you to set the white balance after 
the fact. White balance, like the other settings, are saved as a 
separate file and only applied, or not, during the raw conversion. 
Shooting 8 bit images is a bit like tying one arm behind your back.
