One of my first 4WD vehicles was an early '70s International Scout, the
Travelall's baby brother. One of the two current 4WD SUVs here is the fabled
Toyota OM-4Runner. Even though I've beefed up the Toyota's suspension a
little, since it actually does go off road fairly often, there's no comparison.
I sometimes had to look under the Scout just to reassure myself that it
actually did have springs and shocks. It was modern as a tomahawk, but the
darn thing was built like a tank and would go anywhere -- and did. I bet you
could shoot off the top of it in a hurricane.
