Nice to see this thread is continuing and there is some edifying zoological
education as well. It is definitely true that wombats will bump into things
in their way...maybe. There will never be 'wombat parks' like koala parks
(or koala brothels as one scribe put it). Although they are the closest
relatives to each other.

A 'bit of a wombat' might be alright, depending on context. As is a 'bit of
a dag' even though dags are what hang off sheep's bums.

Or 'ya bastard' might be friendly or it might not be. Depending on whether
you are mates or not.

BUT much of this is going down the gurgler as the original and often funny
Australian idioms are dropping off the perch one by one. I think this is a
shame, and I am an over educated stickler. But also a bit of a dag.

On photographing odd things: my parents live at a beautiful beach with a
magnificent headland called Barrenjoey where the low grade teen soap opera
called 'Home and Away' is filmed. There is an ugly '70s surf club that
features in the series, with tatty sign with 'Summer Bay' on it which is
the name of the fictional beach.

Every summer, there are gaggles of people turning their back on the beach
and headland to take group photos in front of the club/sign. And they are
all British, where Home and Away is big. True!

Lastly, a oldie but a goodie:

Q. How do echidnas/porcupines mate?
A. Very carefully

Nick
