Being also slow and irritable is why I have the little Cullmann ball head on my 
Stoney Point.  There's a slot cut in the side of the body that surrounds the 
ball that allows the camera to be instantly, accurately and positively 
positioned at precisely 90 degrees.  If you look closely, you can probably see 
it here in the shot where the head is on the mini tripod.
