Honestly, this technical and mathematical discussion has gone
about 27 flight levels above my head.  I'm glad I didn't need to
be a mathematican to use a shift lens or my 4x5 view camera.

In usage, lens shift is rather easy to do when you remember the
following rules:

1. To keep the walls or lines of an object straight make sure
the film is parallel to the object.  Any tilting or angling of
the film plane will skew the lines.

2. Move the lens (shift, lift, slide, etc), so that the CENTER
of the lens is in line with the CENTER of the film and the
CENTER of the scene, subject or portion of the subject to be
included in the picture.

Easy as that.

Why it works?  Maybe someday I'll think about it.
