Don't you two upstanding guys get caught up in this age-old argument.

I think that everyone agrees that the D70 and the 300D offer very good value
for your DSLR dollar. With each passing 6 months, there are a whole new round
of features and goodies that each maker can include in their camera. I also
think that Nikon scored a big coup by successfully locating the D70 production
in Thailand, allowing them to introduce a camera that, IMO, is much better than
the 300D, at a competing price, with a nicer lens. That said, they are both
designed primarily for the suburban shooter who has a C or N film camera and
wants something to use their old lenses and step up from a P&S digital.

So what? Well, that means that they don't have the construction robustness or
other pro-level features of the 10D, D100, or the E-1. Their market isn't
interested in paying for that stuff. Image quality is comparable with them
all, esp since the 300D and 10D share the same sensor, albeit with the 300D's
electronics crippled. Just don't drop the C or N, or take them to the beach,
or use it on a boat, or with a fox, or in a box. :-)

In the end, all the cameras are good. The E-1 has gotten its share of kudos.
The postings that I read on dpreview about photographers who have switched from
Canon 10D/1D (very few Nikon switchers, for some reason) say the big
differences are: out-of-the-camera image quality/accuracy (=less
post-processing), less unit and system weight, more predictable AF.

But you will not see droves and droves of people switching. Most people do
fine with what they buy and have low expectations, IME.
