Although both flash and microdrives are very durable I think the flash
drive will live longer than the microdrive due to the microdrives
mechanical bits.

However, no matter which has the longer life, they both have a finite
life. In other words, one needs to plan for the time when the CF card
or drive will fail. As so often said in the past about backing up your
PC hard drive it's not IF it fails but WHEN. The reliability of these
devices is excellent but that only mean that WHEN happens later than it
would have yesterday.

That said, one should consider how many images you are willing to lose
in one go. I have deliberately limited myself to 256MB CF cards since
they hold about 60 images the way I typically shoot. If I did a lot of
raw mode shooting or had a higher res camera I'd probably move up to
512MB cards. I'd much rather be bothered by having to switch to another
card occasionally than risk losing 480 images on a 2GB CF or microdrive.
