Of course, it depends, too, on the diameter of the wires.  My Vandersteens are 
bi-amped, so that's four 1/2 in. diameter Kimber cables running to each 
speaker.  Try stuffing that around the edge of the carpet!  

Fortunately, I live in a house with a full basement, so I can run all sorts of 
wires from below.  And I don't mind at all boring holes in the floor and 
cutting slits in the carpet.  Anything that meets the WAF is permitted. 

And what do you good folks across the pond call quarter-round?
