Caution, rant follows.

Excessive? Unreasonable? Sure, why not. Prior abject apologies to those
who may choose to be offended. You were warned!. And especially to
Michael, who likely just wants a little order in his life, doesn't want
to institute Fascism on the list and can't imagine how anybody could
think so. Special apologies to the resident curmudgeons, I really don't
plan on any consistent usurpation of your prerogatives.

Proceed with caution.

Forget the top-bottom thing for a minute and think that there are
listees who choose receive it as a digest. Your post that I received on
Sept 3 at 7:30 PST on the "OM40 / OMG OM2 OM2n and T10 Ring Flash"
thread included 7 prior posts in their entirety, including the list
signatures. That kind of lack of editing is just plain torture to digest
readers. In my reply, I dropped all that stuff, according to the
etiquette of this list as I understand it.

Personally, I hate the digest and wouldn't use it if I had a 1200 baud
modem, but one of the things about this list that makes it so alive and
interesting is the power and strong opinions of the many individuals on
it. So if they want to take the digest, send 'em headache pills and
edit/trim your posts.

Get my threading right?? On whose authority do you propose to impose
this? I live in a world with many externally imposed constraints. I
don't see where I need artificially imposed constraints on my converse
with like minded individuals on this list. This is for fun, for cryin'
out loud.

Right on! Do you own thing like the rest of us. Of course some of us
temper that with consideration and compassion for our friends and
acquaintences on the list, rather than a flock of rigid rules. So a long
time member makes a perfectly reasonable request, at least in the long
term context of the list, and you say "stuff-it, I'm bringing in
different rules and until you and others over whom you have no control
whatsoever start to follow them, tough." Nice....

And who might they be? I've never heard anybody broach that subject
here. Those want the individual messages, may simply subscribe that way.

And that is one of the great things about this list. Makes me feel right
at home.

I suspect whereas you may or may not be in the majority in the greater
world, you are in a small minority on this list. I've never heard
anybody else raise these issues here.

How very uncivil.

You don't believe in the old dictum "When in Rome...."? Personally, I
will continue to attempt to edit the quoted text in my posts to maintain
a balance between providing some context, maintaining reasonable brevity
and minimal repetition consistent with clarity.
