FWIW, as the resident indian on the list (any more desis? speak up yaar!),
i will add that 'chai' (ch pronunced like chile) is hindi/urdu for tea
(generally taken w/ milk [*]):) don't know the origins of hindi, but urdu
is an amalagam of arabic, hindi, and persian. chai (ch pronounced sh like
shanghai) is also arabic for tea, drunk w/o milk/cream, but often lots of
sugar and boiled w/ mint leaves. very good stuff.

[*] all the tea i had in india this last year was INCREDIBLE; made w/
buffalo milk, which is richer than cow's milk, and VERY VERY GOOD! if you
get a chance, give it a shot, don't worry about getting sick, i lived in
USA practically all my life and i dindt get sick there!
