Warning -- holding the rewind shaft by putting something between the legs
runs the risk of spreading the fork or dimpling the edges.  If this happens,
the rewind shaft will not slide up and down properly.

The "factory way" is to turn the shaft 90 degrees and hold the flat sides of
the forks from the outside with pliers.

If you do find a rewind shaft with a bent fork, try bending them straight.
If the fork legs are dimpled, scrape the dimples off with a knife blade.
