The MD2 LCD has a small illuminator diode, which is operated by pressing the
button marked 'light'. I only ever use it to check that it works.

Unfortunately the MD2 counter does have an effect on the MD2 itself - if it
thinks it has provided all the required exposures, it stops. That's another
reason I prefer MD1 (vide supra in the archives, as the academics say).

I have just has two M15V professionally rebuilt with NiMH cells - slightly
lower voltage, and slightly worse charge leakage in storage, but no memory
effect - a no-brainer for my usage pattern. Cost was about GBP40 each, as
far as I recall.

I was sure others more technologically proficient and knowledgeable (at
least who claim to be) would have chimed in on this by now, but since they
haven't, here's my two cents' worth as the owner of two MD2s.

The Ni-Cd packs can be rebuilt. Then there's always the alternative of the
M.18V Control Grip and its dozen AA cells. It never needs rebuilding or
recharging, just reloading every year or so.

The LCD display is powered by a pair of Silver 357s, or the equivalent.
Maybe that's the problem with this one. I'm not sure what the seller means
by it not lighting. LCDs don't light up. Or maybe that's not the problem.
I have heard these displays finally die, no matter what. Both of mine still
work. At this price, I'd go for it. The film counter on the camera will
tell you all you need to know. Anyway, the camera counts up and the MD2
counts down, and that's always bothered me.

Anyway, good luck and happy bidding.

Walt
