Hi Bill

In film photography the lens is the key - and you can control reception with 
your choice of film  -- but I would have to argue that in digital - the 
camera that houses the sensor is more important than the lens resolution. 
The sensor is more limited than the lens so a more refined lens won't 
accomplish much.and much of what you 'capture' will be determined by the 
electronics of your camera. . As a layperson  this is as much a question as 
it is a statement. Worth discussing at any rate.
