Welcome back to the list. Lately, I have got the bug for an XA, SP, RC or
RD. I have read a lot about all of them and, frankly, I will take any when
I find the right deal. I have been to St. Paul a few times and it is a
great city (except maybe for the snow, you get more than me (Boston).

I left the Oly list about a year-and-a-half ago after I had
unsubscribed for about a month and found I had very little time to
keep up with the list. But I'm back ...

A little about me: I live in St. Paul, Minnesota (many, many
opportunities for winter photography, but the summers are nice). By
trade I am a computer geek, with a job (performance management) that
is unexplainable to most people. I also like music (listening, not
playing), computers (Mac, please, though I can speak non-Mac), and
home improvement (well, I've _learned_ to like it).

My Oly stash: an OM-1, an OM-PC (backup), a 24/2.8, a 28/3.5, a 50/1.4
(not radioactive AFAIK), a 50/1.8, a 50/3.5 macro, and a 135/3.5. I
can bolt on a Vivitar 2800 flash and the Vivitar macro-focusing
teleconverter people on this list like so much.

I've also stuck a toe in digital with a (forgive me) Can*n PowerShot
A40, which has been enough to play with while the prices of DSLRs come
down to earth.

I obviously spend too much time at thrift stores and garage sales,
because I've also picked up some Oly rangefinders. My "fang" champion
is a clean XA with an A11 flash that went for all of 49 cents (must
have been the Kodak padded bag I found it in). I also have
"semi-fanged" (is that a word?) a 35SP and, recently, a 35RC, both in
good shape.

My (on-topic) comment is that I love both of these cameras for
different reasons. The SP is so competent, with its great big lens and
spot metering and all. But the RC feels like it was made for my hand,
from a solid piece of metal, and feels more to me like my OMs than the
SP does. Control simply is where my hands want to find it. It's far
more pocketable, too. The SP is the camera I tote when I know I likely
will have to dig informal shots out of the dark. But the RC (or the
digital) is the camera I grab when I'm out for daylight stuff.

I feel kinda bad sometimes because none of these cameras gets enough
exercise (come to think of it, neither do I). But I haven't yet
brought myself to choose between the SP and RC. The XA has yet to get
under my skin, but it may yet. It's still pretty new.

In closing (those of you who haven't yet nodded off!), I'll mention
that I rejoined the list because looking at the work you guys do makes
me want to go out and improve my craft. You do beautiful work! The
fall color shots especially made me wish I hadn't already missed fall
here. Keep 'em coming, guys! I'll do what I can to contribute.

Steve
