... The newer is the bottom plate is about all I would say.  As with all the
OM bodies, if all you look at is the serial number, you risk encouraging the
seller to swap the bottom plates from a later example (except that it might
only appear to be a later example, if a previous seller beat him to it, if
you see what I mean). 

Body serial numbers are pretty meaningless.

Nope, there are no special 'good or 'bad' ranges. The higher the serial, the
newer it is is about all one can say.
