Hi everybody,
I am coming up upon a recurring event -- Xmas with the in-laws in Hawaii --
while facing new photography issues.

Xmas in Hawaii is very nice indeed. It's not the weather, believe it or
not, because the weather is just not that bad, or has not been bad long
enough, by Xmas time in the midwestern USA. The great thing is being with
my wife's family there and snapping photos of the kids at the beach, and so
forth. To this end, I had pretty much decided to go very light and just
take the C-8080WZ. This also solves the problem of transporting film
through the airport.

I recently purchased a Tamrac 5618 "Turbo Cyberpro" (who thinks up these
names?) camera bag, whose main virtue is that it holds a laptop. But it is
way too commodious for a mere digibrick, even with the monstrous
teleconverter that Olympus makes for it, so I have decided to take my OM-4
and about five rolls of Kodachrome 25 from the Last Stash in my film
refrigerator and try to use them up.

So, for all my good intentions, I still wrestle with heaviness.

I mentioned a couple weeks ago the purchase of a Velbon Maxi 347e
tripod. It will work well with the C8080, but I shall have to stick with
primes for the OM-4. So the 50/3.5 will go instead of the 90/2. 35/2.8,
85/2, 135/2.8 and 2X-A will have to cover for the heavy zooms, with a 17mm
Viv and the precious 24 shift doing WA duty.

I found out that the laptop from work not only plays DVDs pretty well, it
spins CDs at least as well as my now-reliquey Sony Walkman.

The family is going to be diabolically digitized this trip. My 12-year-old
is nuts about his new C5060WZ and my daughter will have one of those 2 MP
Easyshare cameras. The goodwife will supplement the ancient film Stylus
with a D-Stylus 410. What a gorgeous little shooter (the camera, that
is; well, her too! if you must know).

I'd love to show off a few "fragments of my day," but I'm going to be
blissfully off all internet shenanigans. Including this list, so be good
everyone, and blessings of the season to all.

Joel W.
