Welcome Martin,

Take a look at
http://members.aol.com/olympusom/lenstests/default.htm

neither the 90/2 nor the 100/2.8 test very well with the 2x teleconverter.
On the Tamron 400/4 another member found the Olympus 2x worked better than
the Tamron 2x.

The actual results can vary a lot between lens designs. If you're having
trouble focusing the 100/2 without the TC, you will have even more trouble
with the TC. You could test your lens by focusing on a high contrast object
(white house against a dark background) using a tripod for stability. The
100/2 is considered to be one of the sharpest Zuikos. The standard focusing
screens 1-13 etc should work quite well with the 100/2.

Good luck,
-jeff
