There is little light loss - no affect on aperture until your TCON diameter
divided by focal length gives a smaller aperture than the lens is set to.
(or maybe even a little sooner). With longer telephotos you will probably be
limited on your max aperture setting ... vignetting.

The rear mounted teleconverters spread out the light after it is collected
resulting in a slower aperture value than what the lens is set to.
