Or buy a Mac. Macs are priced competitively with top-tier PC 
manufacturers (Dell, HP, etc.), and Firefox, OpenOffice (or equivalents) 
and genuine Microsoft Office (and other MS software) runs on them as 
well. (I'll give you that the OS is not free, however.) Macs even come 
with a built-in software firewall which is surprisingly effective -- 
it's the one that kept malware away from the Mac in that "7-minute" test 
you mentioned. Nothing against Linux -- just that it's likely easier to 
be a "user" on a Mac than on a Linux machine.

_My_ Ob camera bit: I can plug my digital camera into the Mac and have 
it recognized immediately. :-)
