A similar thing happened with one of my OM4Ti bodies. We were going on a
late family holiday, and I was looking over my equipment to decide what to
take. Whilst handling the OM4Ti (which had a film in it, but had not been
used for quite a few months), I inadvertently pressed the shutter button.
The mirror locked up and the squealing started. I removed the batteries and
measured their voltages using a simple volt meter. One battery was 1.55
volts, but the other had reversed polarity and was -0.5 volts! A new pair
of batteries and the OM4Ti seemed as good as new. (I did not take that body
on holiday, as it had the wrong type of film in it.)

If there are no other problems with your OM4, I don't think that you have
anything to worry about.
