I have a 550FD and I tried it on a Pen EE-2; it worked fine with no
sparks or strange behaviour. The hot shoe has a narrow black strip of
insulation down the centre and the 2 front pins on the flash's foot
contact the conductive material on either side of that strip. I tried
it in M, A and TTL.
I hope that this helps, but I am happy to conduct further trials ...
