I believe that is the way that the silver recovery system works on our
mini-lab set up at work we run the chemicals that contain silver through a
column with a pump and then discharge the resulting waste into the sewer
system. I am told they are about as toxic as bleach afterwards and that
the major danger it the environment is the silver content. I read an
article a couple of years ago on the effect of darkroom chemicals on the
septic system and am trying to find it again but no luck so far most of my
darkroom based links seem to be no good anymore. I did do a search of the
Kodak site and came up with a couple of articles including this one.

ml
I used the key words chemicals and septic
Hope this helps
