[OM] Oh yeah, now I remember

Last night I did a bunch of scanning of slides for the website.
I had downloaded the latest greatest version of Vuescan and
there were some subtle improvements that greatly improved the
scan quality from my old Nikon Blurscan II.

Biggest improvement? Somehow the Auto focus now works! Go
figure.

Anyway, even at 2700dpi, I was amazed at some of the details I
was pulling off some of the slides. Many of these slides haven't
seen anything but the occasional light-table for 10-15 years.
Yowza, those Zuikos did good work. A little noise-removal
algorithm and they are as clean looking as a Canon digital.

So this leads to a conceptual question:

Should I invest in a nice used 4000dpi (or greater) scanner
(with Digital ICE) and continue to shoot Velvia for a while? As
much as I want to go digital the results from film still are
worthy of my attention. I know my scanner is leaving tons of
details still on the slides. (especially in dynamic range).

At $1500+ for a digital body, I can buy a decent used scanner
and a ton of film/processing yet and even maybe another OM body.
And I've still got the equivelent (at least) to an 8MP camera.
Christmas bonus this year goes to pay bills, except I might be
able to squirrel away enough to pick up a scanner.

Hmmm.
