I wasn't under the impression that it was new practice at all. I knew it 
had been done before in many cameras. Similarly, I thought that if it 
was a major problem in previous cameras we would have heard about it by 
now. I would imagine that the type of impact required to cause 
misalignment would be quite detrimental to the operation of a camera to 
say the least!
