John, there was a time when plastic cameras were generally disdained on the
list, but that has changed :-). I'm afraid we'll never see the days again of
an all metal camera like the single digit OM's. My C5050 does have some
metal in it supposedly, but it still doesn't feel like my OM2s.

I think it was CH Ling who, making the comparison a while ago, said he
preferred to play with metal cars rather than plastic one when a kid. I
guess I am old enough to have the same memories.

As to made in China, I'm not sure that is all bad. I did purchase a couple
of the Olympus Epic 2.8 cameras from the fellow who was selling them quite
cheaply NIB on epay. They both were clearly marked "Made in China", so I
thought I was getting perhaps a cheaper version. Now after reading this
email from you about the Evolt being made there also, I am quite encouraged.
