As the camera is next to worthless I shall take it to bits and take a look.
I shall take lots of digital pics as I go to 'remember' how to reverse the
procedure.
I expect lots of 'pings' and 'O damn where'd that widget go'and 'don't step
there I'm looking for a little round thing'
I shall keep you informed. Its broken now so no loss.

The shutter strings in your camera have atleast come off their pulley
positions.
