Many years ago I ordered Dyson's book from Canada. The book is a facinating
study in engineering and marketing. Dyson shopped the first model to Hoover
and thought he had a deal when in reality that company did everything in
their power (for many years!) to block him from entering the US market.
What a shame that the fine design and performance choices that we now have
in the US Vac market could not have been made available earlier.

As with every engineering problem, there are many ways to pick dirt up.
Dyson's solution does not loose power as it continues to collect dirt. More
traditional vacs like Kirby and Airway excel with empty bags but as the bag
fills up the laws of physics set in and suction drops. Neither solution is
perfect - kind of reminds me of OMs vs Everything else.

The only clear winner in this discussion is Dyson's Book - he should sell it
along side of the VACs - yes it is that good!
