Second curtain may be too fast and closes the slit, ergo no exposure.  Point 
the camera w/o lens, back open, at an operating TV, fire the shutter at a 
high manual speed.  You should see a diagonal band of light.  The defect is 
not necessarily happening only in cold weather.  You need a lopcal repair 
shop with a shutter tester a,d a technician who can do this basic type of 
adjustment  for you (IF that's the only problem with it.)
