Samsung has made a number of products which use Memory Stick. There may 
be one or two other companies, but I don't remember who they were 
(Sharp?) and I don't know if they still make MS-compatible products. 
And, as others noted, there are lots of "universal" players out there.

I remember Elcaset. I also remember U-Matic, a format which predeceded 
Beta and features a somewhat-similar design (it's actually still in 
use). Then there was MiniDisk (audio only; forgot that the first time).

To give Sony some credit, they _did_ share patents on Compact Disc with 
Philips. But if they were a major-league baseball player, Sony's batting 
average on new standards would have them back in the minor leagues.
