I usually like Mike Johnston's writing but this and his previous column
was a disaster. What is so surprising about a 150mm lens being smaller
and cheaper than a 300mm lens? My now old Coolpix 5700 has a 280mm
equivalent 71.2mm lens. Guess what? It is smaller, shorter and 2.4
pounds lighter with a camera attached than the Oly lens, not to mention
cost. What a silly comparison. He does introduce things by claiming to
be a curmudgeon, but I think, just like a lot of older photographers,
has decided that he is tired of carrying much of anything around.

He also shows that he is completely confused by viewfinder
magnification, field of view and the sensor's crop factor.
