SO...I got here (here being eastern Kentucky in a little town with no
cell signal and...well, instead of listing the things I'm missing, just
imagine living in 1971) yesterday after a LONG crappy day. Airport
confiscated my nail scissors and my Bic lighter. Plane sat at the
terminal at my connecting flight while they worked on the engines for
nine hours. Baggage was beaten to shit with the little note inside from
Fatherland Security telling you they'd broken all your stuff so the
terrorists wouldn't win. I had two rolls of Tri-X in a lead pouch that
they refused to hand-check at SFO and the guy threw it on the scanner
belt (saying "It'll be fine") and while I was protesting they cranked
up the X-Rays REAL nice and high to see through the lead pouch, so I
just threw the film in the trashcan at the end of the security
checkpoint. Then today I fired up the Kinor 35mm rig and it ran for
about a minute and then the motor went apeshit and ripped through the
sprocket holes of about five feet of film and then all the lights went
out and it hasn't started again. At 2 pm tomorrow I'm meeting with the
Department of Energy for an interview and have no synch sound
equipment. Can't find a rental (not even a 24P video camera) anywhere.
If I was the kind of guy to own firearms I'd have one clenched between
my teeth right now with one toe on the trigger. Looks like it's a good
thing I packed my hand-cranked 35mm rig. This is going to be the worst
synch-sound interview in history. ;-)
