Many thanks, Moose. I've just had a look but alas I can't find any screws.
What I can see is a groove running all the way round the middle of the focusing
barrel. For most of the way the groove is covered by a strip of silvery tape.
It is as if the focusing barrel might unscrew into two halves, and the tape is
there to stop them moving.
