Now I understand your suggestion better Phil.
I gave up using portable headphones a few years ago - no walkman, no
portable CDP, no iPod.
I'm trying to keep my hearing as good as my nature allows, and I do feel
those cheap headphones make my years bleed. Same criteria would apply to
noise-cancelling headphones.
Loud noise polution, like long train travelling could be better accounted
for with a pair of E.A.R. earplugs Classic [Cabot Safety Corporation, 5457
West 79th Street, Indianapolis, IN 46268 (317)692-6616]
That is no noise, no music. Reading a book or the daily newspaper would be
safer for your years during a 2 hour train commute. Taking pictures too
unless you go underground.
When you're back home, you'll find your Sennheisser much more pleasant, your
Martin-Logan, Quad or Vandersteen much more sweet sounding, you won't feel
an urge yo upgrade the amp or the source. You won't even think vynil is
better :^)
No point of comparison to my old Mac... I don't need earplugs but a Sonex
envelope to wrap it around.
