Well, I have no idea what happened to my original WTB thread and how
it morphed into a discussion of "Heard it through the Grapevine", but
since I'm from Motown and still live in the area, here are the facts.

It was written by Norman Whitfield and Barrett Stong. They custom
tailored three different versions for Marvin Gaye, Gladys Knight & the
Pips and The Temptations. I won't even hazard a guess as to how many
other artist have covered it over the decades, but my favorite was
John Fogerty's arrangement for Creedence Clearwater Revival.

Norman was the primary force behind The Temps and also co-wrote "Ain't
Too Proud To Beg," "My Imagination," "Papa Was A Rolling Stone" and
"War".

BTW, Fogerty wrote "Proud Mary," "Bad Moon Rising," "Who'll Stop The
Rain," "Lodi," "Looking Out My Back Door," "Run Through The Jungle,"
"The Old Man Down the Road," "Centerfield," "Fortunate Son" and
countless other tunes. He continues to write terrific songs, still
tours and gets virtually no air play likely because he's over sixty
now AND his music refuses to fit a niche.

How's that for off-topic? Or . . . as clever as those folks are, I'll
bet their personal cameras are OMs. ;o) ;o)
