So the T8/T10 question was a red herring?

There are after-market ring flashes available, and they would work just as
well as the T8/T10, with the same proviso as in my original answer.  I think
Vivitar and Sunpak both produce them, as does Multiblitz.  BUT you will
likely find that they are just as expensive as T10 + TPC.

And, by the way, you don't need a hot shoe at all - just use the sync
socket!

You are correct, however, the OM1-(MD) will only accept Shoe 1 as it has no
TTL flash capability. This was the reason behind my asking if it could be
used in manual mode. Also, this being just a hobby for me, my budget won't
exactly let me pay what T8's and T10's are selling for on ebay, which is why
I'm wondering what other options are available?
