I've never had that happen and I use that function all the time. Are you
sure you don't have a space before the "+"? With the + after something
other than the numbers, doesn't work, as I recall. You also can't start
with number '00', only '01' or higher.

You can put anything there. I just looked in VueScan and the string I
have in "TIFF file name" is M:\My Documents\My
Pictures\FS4Scans\8703\TIF\8703_01+.tif. The output files are correctly
numbered 8703_01 through 8703_37. Exactly the same setup for JPEG
simultaneously put correctly numbered JPEGs in their directory.
