Uh Winsor, what do *I* have to do with Donald's post? Just because I'm
of Scottish heritage...

When I posted the link to Erwin Puts' article, it was with full
knowledge that Puts himself is controversial, though I consciously chose
not to post any "disclaimer" as I didn't figure that was relevant. And
I knew this would re-start a lively discussion, but I felt that Puts'
observations and opinion were interesting and noteworthy.

I happen to agree that it's not all about MP (as everyone here believes,
I think), but rather a lot of other factors, both image quality and body
features/handling are large factors. While the proof is in the images
and acceptance by enough photographers to make it viable, the market is
not rational. The pixel race/war is real. Noise at high ISO, even
though high ISO capture is a very small part of professional
photography, is important in the mindspace of a huge number of buyers.
Image stabilisation is truly important, and Olympus currently has no
strategy that has been made public, if they have one at all.

I'd prefer an OM-D or an Epson R-D1 with better image quality straight
out of camera, as I like RFs and the OM, of course, is the quintessence
of an SLR IMO.

As an aside, I'm sad but not surprised at Agfa-Photo's situation. I had
held out a slim hope that they could survive and I might standardize on
APX 100 as a medium speed 35mm emulsion, and occasional use of APX 400.
I won't bother stocking up on those, but I will probably stock up on
Rodinal. Given Kodak's position on film, it's up to Ilford and
specialty manufacturers.
