For a short while at Olympus we had a supply of some small black plastic
parts that we could squeeze behind the sync switch to keep it set on "X".
After only a few hundred we ran out, and they were never available again. I
suspect higher-ups reconsidered since it was tantamount to an admission of
an operational shortcoming in the camera.
One method to disable FP is to reach into the front of the camera and bend
the end of the plate that goes to ground when the sync switch is set on FP
out so that it doesn't make contact. Another that only works on the OM-1
involves disconnecting the red wire that goes up to the X/FP selector. On
the OM-1n you can by-pass the diode that makes the shoe X-sync only (and
causes so many problems w/studio flashes!), but that makes it so that if the
camera is set on "FP", the sync is always shorted to ground. You'll want to
bend the contact as noted above as well.
