Hello,

I've got a winder 1 I bought used (no wonder) about 10 years ago while
travelling in the UK. I like this device, it has worked ok since, but it
recently became erratic, either with my OM 1 or my 2n. I suspected the
battery assembly to have become bended with time, but it was erratic on
external power also. It didn't always fire, and when it did, the sound was
like it had difficulties to carry the film ; although once, it ate a roll
before I had a chance to stop it !

And today, it has just stubornly refused to do anything : no whizz, no bang,
no nothing. So I'm wondering what are the main causes of failures with this
device. I'd love to have it overhauled, but I'm a bit broke and save
available money to buy films and chemicals. So I'll probably try to fix it
myself - at least have a look. It can't be more complicated than removing the
foam in my bodies, which I did successfully.

Trouble is the previous owner badly damaged the 2 screws which appear to lock
the bottom on the handle, through the low metallic strap holder (bottom left
when seen from front). So I will have to drill at least one out to open,
which I'll do only if my problem looks fixable.

Any idea of the main causes of winder 1 failures ? Precision : every necessary
bits, holders, rods, contacts, are clean and present. The outside is a bit
beaten, but appart from cosmetics, all looks ok and in place, save those 2
screws.
