Back in the day, most of the conspiracy theories were the property of
right-wing kooks who had to attribute the fact they weren't in power to some
sort of global Communist/Socialist conspiracy. Now. the right has power and
the left is on the outside looking in, they are falling prey to exactly the
same thing. They can't accept that they've gone so far past the pale that
they are dangling from the lunatic fringe, therefore, they cook up a
conspiracy dejour to explain the fact they've been thrown out of power and
aren't likely to be invited back anytime soon.
