Well, FWIW, I did all my student films on an old C@non Scoopic 16M
with a 12.5-75mm f1.8 Macro Zoom Lens. The camera was non-synch when
I got it and I had The Film Group install a crystal synch unit.
Everyone told me that it would never do the job and that camera noise
would be evident in all my synch shooting, but it's been just fine.
The camera seems very durable and the optics are great. Even though
I'm shooting 35mm now I still take the Scoopic loaded with Kodak
Vision 800T in case I need to grab a shot that requires the extra
couple of stops.
